My water bill is higher than normal what do I look for?

There are several things to look for:

How do I check for a water leak?

My plumber said the meter is defective because the flow indicator continues to turn. What do I do?

Hire a competent plumber. The flow indicator is just that. It reflects the water flowing through the meter.

There is water leaking in my neighbor's yard. What do I do?

Call our office. Give us the location and the details as to where the leak is located. Moongate will attempt to contact the property owner and we will shut off the service.

Is there a shut off valve located at the Water Meter?

Yes, there is. This valve is for the utility’s use, but in most cases it is the most convenient valve used in an emergency.

I have a water leak in my house and cannot find the shutoff valve at the house. How do I turn off the water?

Locate your meter, remove the cover on the meter box and remove any blow sand that may be covering the angle valve. On the angle valve, there is a square bar with an arrow pointing toward the meter, this square bar needs to be rotated clockwise ½ turn (Click to see Photo). If you cannot turn the angle valve make sure you are turning it the right way.  If the valve will not move call our office for assistance.

The valve at the water meter was turned off to repair a leak within my house. How do I turn this valve on and restore the water?

Locate your meter, remove the cover on the meter box and remove any blow sand that may be covering the angle valve. On the angle valve, there is a square bar with an arrow pointing away from the water meter. This square bar needs to be rotated counter clockwise ½ turn (Click to see Photo). If you cannot turn the angle valve, make sure you are turning it the right way.  If the valve will not move, call our office for assistance.

I want to install a fence. Can I get you a key to the gate?

NO, Moongate will not accept any keys to private property. The meter should be located just outside the property within the road right of way. Check to make sure you are not installing your fence within a road and utility easement. If the meter is outside the road way and you cannot divert your fence to pass around the meter, contact our office and provide copies of your legal description including a current land survey so we can verify and schedule relocating the meter.

Do you add fluoride to the water?

No. Visit our CCR report page to see the water quality.

Is the water tested for bacteria?

Yes. All public water providers must test for bacteria monthly.

Is my water safe?

Yes. Visit our CCR report page to see the water quality.

What is the Conservation fee on my bill?

The conservation fee is a charge per 1,000 gallons used to pay for required EPA water quality testing of water systems within New Mexico. Or simply a fancy way to identify a tax on the water.

How do I read my meter?

Locate your meter, remove the cover on the meter box and remove any blow sand that may be covering the meter. Read and write down the numbers across the display include the fixed zero’s that are located to the right of the number. (Click to see Photo) This is the current reading of this meter.

How do I calculate the amount of water I have used?

First read your meter (Click to see Photo) to obtain the current reading. Then subtract the present reading on your most recent water bill from the current reading on your meter. This is the number of gallons you have used since we read the water meter.
